Long before the term “snake oil” became synonymous in this country with fraudulent health care products, charlatans began exploiting the unique health care needs of women. • $896 million: That’s what Pfizer, the world’s largest drug maker, has paid so far to resolve lawsuits claiming that its hormone replacement drugs cause breast cancer
• 0% Fault: A 2008 Supreme Court ruling held that the makers of FDA-approved medical devices can’t be held responsible for injuries, even if their product is defective and later recalled.
